Irene U. Bennett, age 83, a life long resident of Monroe, MI passed away Thursday, October 09, 2008 at 10:04 AM at Mercy Memorial Hospital where she had been for 4 days. Irene had been in poor health for 1 year. Irene was born July 27, 1925 in Monroe the daughter the late Nelson and Margaret (King) Russeau. Irene attended Monroe Public Schools. On October 27, 1962 Irene married her beloved husband William E. Bennett in Indiana. Sadly he preceded her in death on September 21, 1991. Irene was employed as a machinist for Ace Paper Company in Monroe for 19 years retiring in 1979. Irene was also a homemaker, where she enjoyed baking, cooking, preparing food for others and crocheting. Irene was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Monroe and it's Ladies Aid Society. Some of Irene's recipes are published in the cookbook sponsored by the Ladies Aid Society at the church. Above all Irene enjoyed her family. Irene is survived by her loving children; William A. Bennett of Dundee, MI and Robbin A. Bennett of Monroe, 4; treasured grandchildren; Amanda M. McDaniel, Megan Bennett, Alleana Bennett and Trent Manders, 4 sisters; Rita Schneff of Monroe, Donna Winchester of FL, Norma (Danny) Schincek of FL and Gertrude (Ralph) Milankov of Monroe. In addition to her parents and husband Irene was preceded in death by 5 brothers and 5 sisters. Visitation will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe. On Monday October 13, 2008 she will lie in state at Grace Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Ronald C. Schultz pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
