Obituary

Hisako Mary Skinner, age 91 of Monroe, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Nancy, in Monroe.
Born February 14, 1933 in Sapporo, Japan, Mary was the daughter of the late Tokushiro Hayasaka, father, and Kame Shinzai, mother. On December 10, 1952, she married James Rouleau, whom she met while he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Ten children were born from this union. She later married Clyde David Skinner on December 27, 1984 in Toledo, OH. Sadly, he preceded Mary in death on December 24, 2020.
Mary was employed as a nurse's aide at Beach Nursing Home and at Mercy Memorial Hospital for many years, retiring in 1995. She had been a member of St. Michael Catholic Church for nearly 70 years. Mary enjoyed senior league bowling, knitting, crocheting, visiting casinos, and traveling. Above all, she loved her family and church unconditionally. If you had the pleasure of speaking with Mary, you were honored with her personal blessing: "Stay young. Stay healthy. And enjoy your life!"
Mary is survived by her children, Joyce (Larry) Anthon of Fayetteville, NC, Lois Greer of Plano, TX, Marcia (Keith) Fincher of St. Augustine, FL, Joseph (Jackie) Rouleau of Greenville, TX, Donna (Larry) Abraham of Dundee, MI, Thomas (Frankie) Rouleau of Winterset, IA, Nancy (Bill) Heck of Monroe, John (Leticia) Rouleau of Westfield, IN, and Marlene (Michael Sherman) Langerman of Monroe; step-son, David Skinner Jr. of Monroe; 3 brothers, Seizo Shinzai and Tadao Shinzai of Japan, and Shigezo Shinzai of California; 31 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, husband Dave and 1st husband James, Mary was preceded in death by a son, David Rouleau; step-daughter, Lisa Peters; 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Mary's beloved yorkie, Dillon, preceded her in death in December 2023.
Family and friends may visit from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home where a scripture service will be held at 6 p.m. Mary will lie in state at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church.
