Obituary

Herman C. "Cook" McKeehan, 87 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 11, 2013 in his home.
Born December 2, 1925 in Whitely County, KY, Herman was the son of the late Solmon Ceberry Preston and Rhoettia (Hill) McKeehan. Herman was a 1944 graduate of Woodbine High School in Kentucky and excelled as a basketball player. He went on to further his education at Cumberland College.
Herman served his country honorably and proudly as a Seaman 1st Class in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS LCS – L. Herman served in both the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters, for which he was awarded Victory Ribbons with One Bronze Battle Star.
On June 3, 1950 Herman married his beloved wife the former Esther I. Smith in Monroe, MI.
Herman was employed by Ford Motor Company for 24 years. He retired as an Inspector on June 1, 1989.
Herman was a long time member of Bible Fellowship Church in Monroe, where he taught Sunday School. Herman was an enthusiastic fan of college basketball, March Madness and the University of Kentucky. More than anything Herman loved family.
Herman is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Esther, three loving children: John C.B. (Barbara) McKeehan of Canton, MI, Lori E. Setzler and Vickie (William) Cornett both of Monroe, eight cherished grandchildren: William (Susan) Cornett, Jr., Bradley (Kathy) Cornett, Benjamin Cornett, Seth (Carrie) Setzler, Lukas Setzler, Megan McKeehan, Melinda McKeehan, and Melanie McKeehan, four treasured great grandchildren: Emily, Riley, Will and Maggie, one brother Arthur (Barbara) McKeehan of Williamsburg, KY, two sisters: Addie Estes of Stanford, KY and Margaret Jones of Williamsburg, KY. In addition to his parents, Herman was preceded in death by a daughter Karen McKeehan and ten brothers and sisters: Martha Highingbotham, Minnie McKeehan, Eva Edwards, Alice Smith, Rhoda Rice, Ethel Cox, Susie Smith, Lee and Preston McKeehan and Earl Hill.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd, Monroe, MI 48161. On Saturday, November 16, 2013 he will lie in state at Bible Fellowship Church from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev. J.D. Walker, pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial.
