Helen J. (Copi) Chickeral, 81 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2010 in the Sylvania Care and Rehabilitation Center in Sylvania, OH. Helen had been in declining health for several years.
Born April 13, 1929 in Newton Falls, OH, Helen was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Gorsha) Copi. Helen grew up in Monroe and attended Monroe High School.
On July 9, 1949 Helen married Roland W. Chickeral at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monroe. Fr. John Vanadia presided at the ceremony.
Helen was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she helped with the food closet and volunteered for many church functions.
Helen will be remembered as a wonderful homemaker, who enjoyed taking care of her family. One of Helen's favorite traditions was having her family over every Sunday for pasta. Helen also enjoyed watching college football, watching her children and grandchildren's sporting events, playing bingo and going to the casino.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 61 years; Roland, 6 loving children; Bill (Marjorie) Chickeral of Monroe, MI, Larry (Rhonda) Chickeral of Flat Rock, MI, Susan M. (David) Jarzynka of Gig Harbor, WA, Patricia A. (Larry) Fountain of Monroe, MI, Diane K. (Randy Goins) Chickeral of Temperance, MI, and Nancy (Mario) DeFelice of Maybee, MI, 11 cherished grandchildren, 11 treasured great grandchildren and 1 brother; Edward Copi of Monroe, MI. In addition to her parents Helen was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.
In keeping with Helen's wishes cremation will be held.
Helen's family will greet friends and share fond memories on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 12 – 5 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe.
