Harold F. Stein, 78 years, a lifelong resident of Carleton, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2023 in his home.
Born May 16, 1944 in Carleton, Harold was the son of the late Donald T. and Wilhelmina (Rutkowske) Stein. Harold was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He attended St. Patrick Grade School and was a 1963 graduate of Airport High School.
Harold served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served from December of 1965 until his honorable discharge in April of 1967. For his meritorious service he was awarded National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
On February 7, 1970, Harold married his beloved wife, the former Donna L. Olshesky, in the chapel at St. Mary's Academy in Monroe.
Harold was employed by Ford Motor Company at the Monroe Plant for 41 years from which he retired in 2004 as a fork lift driver.
Harold was a member of the VFW Post 4039 in Carleton. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, playing cards, and trips to Northern Michigan. Most of all Harold loved time spent with family.
Harold is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Donna, three loving children: Joseph H. (Terry Theisen) Stein of Ypsilanti, Jennifer M. Krueger of Morgan Hill, CA and Virginia E. (Neil) Szuch of Carleton, two cherished grandchildren: Cameron and Amelia Szuch, and four siblings: Benjamin (Beulah) Stein of Monroe, Marlene Hargis of Monroe, Betty Jane Lazette of Monroe, and Carol Ann (Harvey) Kecskes of Port Huron. In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by a son in law, Jens Krueger, and four brothers: Charles, Vincent, Edward, and Thomas,
In keeping with Harold's wishes, cremation has been held.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, at 1:00 pm the VFW post 4039 will conduct military honors, followed by a memorial service celebrating Harold's life.
