Obituary

Gregory J. Gruber, age 71 of Monroe, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.

Born March 23, 1955 in Monroe, Greg was the son of the late Clemens and Viola (Grueschow) Gruber. He attended Trinity Lutheran Elementary School, graduated from Monroe High School in 1973, and attended Monroe County Community College.

Greg had a long working career in the automotive industry. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Monroe for 32 years. After retiring in 2008, he then went to work for Neapco in Belleville where he was currently employed.

Greg was an avid Detroit sports fan. At various times in his life he enjoyed bowling, playing softball, throwing horseshoes, and playing Euchre. His most enjoyable times were when he was golfing or hosting family gatherings at his home while grilling by the pool with his children and grandkids.

Greg is survived by his three children, Marie and Holly Gruber, both od Monroe, and Joshua Gruber of Rockwood, MI; two siblings, Richard Gruber of Toledo, OH and Susan Gruber of Monroe; sister-in-law, Diane Gruber of Monroe; and eight grandchildren: Savannah, Dustin, Ciara, Allison, Austin, Lucas, Wilhelmina, and Brayden.

In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Henderson and her husband Bill, and two brothers, Gary and Bill Gruber.

Family and friends may visit from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. Rev. Dennis Mann of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to any charity of the donor’s choice.
