Grace Mary Cole, age 83, of Monroe, passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 at Fountain View of Monroe surrounded by her family.
Grace was born January 7, 1941 in Monroe, she was the daughter of Jasper Joseph and Rose Agnes (Barretta) Marchese. She married Malcolm Cole May 19, 1979 in Monroe, after 34 years together he preceded her in death October 5, 2013.
Grace was a 1958 graduate of St. Mary Academy. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Monroe; she remained a member until the church permanently closed. She then began attending Monroe Missionary Baptist Church with her husband, she joined the Sisters in Spirit widows group after her husband's passing.
Grace worked for Monroe Bank and Trust for 19 years and then worked part time at Monroe Public Schools for 4 years before her retirement.
She enjoyed walking, traveling, camping, reading, flower gardening, playing with her dog and most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Dawn Marie Matthews of Monroe and Shawna Lynn (Joe) Mazur of Carleton; two sisters, Mary Zanger of Monroe and Theresa (Roger) Thornton of Newport; grandson, Tyler (Caitlyn) Mazur; great grandson, Harrison Mazur; many nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Joseph Marchese; brother-in-law, Peter Zanger.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, MI, where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
Memorial contributions may be made to Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
Grace's smile, stories and pleasant demeanor will be sadly missed by all that knew her.
