Ginger D. Berns, 47 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, surrounded by her family that she loved so much, at Mercy Memorial Nursing Care Center after a courageous four month battle with cancer. Ginger was born May 19, 1961 in Monroe the daughter of Charles H. and Clara (Croskey) Berns. Ginger attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1980 graduate of Monroe High School. Ginger was a food service coordinator for Taco Bell on LaPlaisance Road in Monroe for the past 10 years. Ginger also worked at Arby's at the Pilot Station on Nadeau Road. Ginger enjoyed baking, spending time on her computer, babysitting, puzzles, music and spending time with her family. Ginger also enjoyed tinkering and repairing electronic devices for herself and others. Ginger was a member of the Monroe Jaycees and was a volunteer for Relay For Life and a volunteer for many downtown Monroe activities. Ginger is survived by her beloved father Charles H. Berns of Monroe, 7 loving brothers and sisters; Gary (Terri) Berns of Temperance, MI, Richard (Kathy) Berns of Chandler, AZ, Ron (Julie) Berns of Monroe, Jeffery (Robin) Berns of Phoenix, AZ, Randy (Lisa) Berns of Temperance, MI, Janet (Ron Reddick) Berns of Monroe and Judy Berns of Monroe, several cherished nieces and nephew and several treasured great nieces and nephews. Sadly, Ginger was preceded in death by her beloved mother on January 3, 1993. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 5-8 PM and on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 27, 2009. The Rev. William Kreichbaum pastor of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
