Obituary

Gertrude L. Bart, 93, of Monroe, passed away at 8:15 A.M., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Lutheran Home in Monroe.
She was born in Detroit, Michigan August 9, 1918, the daughter of John and Anna (Stachelski) Wygnalski. She married Stanley W. Bart June 10, 1944 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Detroit. Sadly he passed away December 12, 1986.
Gertrude graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit in 1938. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Msgr. Hunt Council, Knights of Columbus. She was very active in sports especially volleyball where she won the West Side Districts in Detroit with the O'Shea Recreation League. She was also active in Grandma Vario's Dance Company and Silver Streak Dance Company in Detroit. She started coming to the Monroe area in 1945. The family spent time and summers at the cottage they built on the lake at Woodland Beach. She moved to Monroe permanently in 1999 and became a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Her survivors include three daughters: Sharon A. (Dana) Sturdavant of Commerce Township., Michigan, Arlene G. (Tim) Stanifer of Monroe and Linda M. (Steve) Whiting of Gladwin, Michigan; seven grandchildren: Cherie, Dawn, Casey, Amy, Jody, Steve and Heather; six great-grandchildren: Angela, Monique, Isaac, Grayson, Caleb and Kylie; also a sister Eleanor Pilawski of Algonac, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister Eugenia Sharrard.
Friends may call  Sunday from 1 – 8 P.M. at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road in Monroe (734-241-4600) A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Monday, November 21, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 511 S. Monroe Street. Officiating will be the Rev. Fr. James Smalarz. Interment will take place at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights. A prayer service will be recited at the funeral home Sunday at 5:00 P.M. by Deacon Mike Stewart.
Memorials may be made to any charity of the donor's choice.
