Gerald Wayne Thomas, age 77, of Monroe, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Gerald was born June 24, 1945 in Corbin, Kentucky; he was the son of Claude and Mary (Maiden) Thomas. He married Blonza N. Crowder in 1964 in Flat Rock.
He attended Monroe Public Schools. Later on, Gerald worked for Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Plant for 40 years, retiring in 2006.
He enjoyed gardening, canning, golfing, riding his Harley Davidson, feeding the birds and squirrels, and reading his bible. Gerald loved the Lord with all his heart. He lived for Jesus Christ and embodied the compassion and patience of his savior. Along with all of these things, he was an avid Detroit Tigers fan.
He found the most enjoyment helping others; especially his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whether it was helping fix something or just being there for them, he never said no and always made time. There was never hesitation when it came to his loved ones, he was a selfless man who was never afraid to make sacrifices.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Blonza Thomas of Monroe; four children, Rhonda (Eric) Ferguson of Ida, Reneé Thomas of Monroe, Jerry (Marjorie) Thomas of Monroe and Jennifer (Mike) Smith of Holland, MI; two brothers, Ronald Thomas and Kenneth Thomas both of Monroe; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and James and his sister Betty Jones.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 15, 2022 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, where funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday. Rev. Roy Southerland will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Monroe.
