Obituary

Gerald W. McManaway was born on April 24, 1942 in Monroe, Michigan.  Jerry served admirably in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969.  In 1972, he received his degree from Ferris State College.  For thirty years, he was a well-respected pharmacist.
Jerry is survived by his beloved children Paul Douglas McManaway, Kevin (Courtney) McManaway, Garrett (Kimberly) McManaway and Heidi McManaway.  His legacy will live on in his grandchildren, Abbee, Hayley and Hannah.  He was cherished by his life partner, Donna McCoy and her daughters.  He was blessed to be surrounded by his surviving siblings Eileen Crockett, Helen (Richard) Prosser, Judith (George) Steel and Lori (Glen) Lambert.  He was loved and cherished by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lois McManaway, his brother, Donald McManaway and his granddaughter Makenna-Nicole Anne McManaway.
Jerry treasured the outdoors and loved to fish and bird watch.  He was an avid coin collector.  He loved classic cars and good music.  He held a special place in his heart for animals.  The best times of his life were those spent with family and friends.  He was a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather and a friend.
Jerry passed away on November 8, 2010 after a courageous, year-long battle with lung cancer.  He was surrounded by family in his final hours.  His final resting place will be at his home-away-from-home in northern Michigan.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at Bacarella Funeral Home at 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe, Michigan 48161 on Thursday, November 11, 2010.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a service at 7 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Monroe Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
