Obituary

Gerald E. "Jerry" Jackson, 75 years, of Newport, MI, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2012 in his home.
Born July 20, 1936 in Monroe, MI, Jerry was the son of the late Francis E. "Gene" and Marcella (Danneels) Jackson. Jerry was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church and attended St. Mary's Grade School in Monroe. He was a 1955 Graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School where he ran the mile for the track team.
In January of 1957 Jerry married his beloved wife the former Ingeborg R. "Inge" Wagner in West Germany while serving in the United States Army. Sadly she preceded him in death on March 17, 2007.
Jerry served his country honorably and proudly in the US Army from January 20, 1955 until his discharge on January 19, 1959.
Jerry owned and operated Jerry's Towing in Newport, MI. He also owned and operated Jerry's Junk Food Heaven in Newport.
Jerry was a 25 year veteran of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Swan Boat Club, the Monroe YMCA, and the Michigan Towing Association. Jerry enjoyed boating, playing pool and golfing. Jerry was an avid Michigan Football fan and a season ticket holder for many years. Jerry will best be remembered for his kind and caring heart, his incredible sense of humor and his love of Halloween. Jerry so loved to play pranks on and tease people, this was his way of showing how much he liked you.
Jerry is survived by two loving children: Dr. Gerald P. "Gerry" (Lauren) Jackson of Lisle, IL and Christina R. "Chris" Jackson of Allentown, PA, two cherished grandchildren: Amanda and Matthew, and a caring sister: Barbara M. (Ray) Sweat of Monroe.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe. On Tuesday, March 6, 2012 he will lie in state at St. Charles Catholic Church in Newport, MI from 9:00 AM until Mass of the Resurrection celebrating his life at 10:00 AM. Fr. Victor Roman, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
