Gerald E. “Jerry” Dyson, age 95, of Newport, passed Saturday, June 27, 2026 in his home surrounded by his family.
Gerald was born August 23, 1930 in Detroit, he was the son of Edward G. and Doris M. (Kephart) Dyson. He married Mary Grace Cronenwett July 22, 1950 at St. Patrick Church, Carleton. She preceded him in death October 16, 2011 after 61 years of marriage.
Jerry was a graduate of Monroe High School and member of Berlin Senior Center and St. Charles Church where he helped with funeral dinners.
He had worked as a Quickway Tools Salesman and Monroe Piston Service, in 1965 he went to work at Ford Motor Company Woodhaven Plant where he became the oldest man, at the age of 35, to start the tool and die apprenticeship program and stayed on there until his retirement in 1994.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, boating, playing euchre, spending time with others talking and telling stories.
He is survived by four children, Edward (Bonnie) Dyson of Newport, Laurie (Al) Schaberg of Stevensville, MI, Kathleen (John) Fowler of Monroe and Susan Black of Caledonia, MI; sixteen grandchildren, Dory Philbeck, Scott Burns, William Dyson, Gerald Dyson, Paula Kehrer, Emily Zinner, Sarah Jolley, Michael Zinner, Katherine Ott, Nicole Austin, Daniel Rugila, Josh Rugila, Monica Fowler, Chris Rugila, Sean Black and Danielle Mead and thirty four great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Cynthia Burns and Pamela Zinner; granddaughter, Staci Rugila; brother, Larry Dyson and sister, Joyce Theisen.
Visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2026 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. He will lie instate Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, Newport, with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
