George F. Williams, 81 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with his Lord on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 6:40 AM in Mercy Memorial Hospital. George was born October 2, 1928 in Claiborne County, TN the son of the late Ulys and Hester (Carey) Williams. After graduation from Tazewell Senior High School George entered the US Army. George served his country honorably and proudly as a Corporal in the Army from April 10, 1946 to February 18, 1949. Most of his time in serving our country was spent in Rome where he was the finance officer for the European Theatre of Operations. On August 19, 1950 in Monroe, MI George married his beloved wife the former Sylvia A McDaniel. Sadly she preceded him in death on August 25, 2002. George then married Margaret C. Porter on June 11, 2005 also in Monroe. George was employed as a die maker for 34 years by Ford Motor Company in Monroe, retiring on January 1, 1984. George also sold real estate for Foster Realty in Monroe for 22 years. George was a former member of First Baptist Church where he served as usher, trustee and as a vice moderator. George is currently a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and a life member of VFW Post 1138. George enjoyed fishing, hunting, wintering in Lakeland, FL and above all else his family and friends. George is survived by his beloved wife Margaret, 3 loving children; Ronald W. Williams of South Lyon, MI, Larry D. (Kay) Williams of Temperance and Paula G. (John) Karalewitz of Monroe, 5 step children; Mike (Guylain) Taylor of Ottawa Ontario, Canada, Richard and David Taylor of Viking Alberta Canada, Tim (Lynda) Taylor of Timmins, Ontario, Canada and Carolyn (Jim) Stewart of Vancouver, Canada, his sister Louise Shock of Newport, 6 cherished grandchildren 11 treasured great grandchildren and 8 cherished step grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Roy Southerland pastor of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Monroe Missionary Baptist Church or the American Cancer Foundation.
