George K. Whitaker, 77 of Ida, MI passed away Monday, August 6, 2007 in his daughter's home at 6:30 PM. He had been in poor health for 3 years. George was born February 15, 1930 in Monroe the son of the late Roy S. and Carlie (Estes) Whitaker. George was first married to Ruth Turner he then married Patricia White. In 1997 he married Petronella A. Balk Keck, sadly she preceded him in death. George owned the Whitaker Family Concessions, which operated at Michigan county fairs. A licensed electrician, George also worked as a quality control manager for Consolidated, an engineer for Time Container and as the transportation director for Monroe County ISD from which he retired. George served his country as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. George was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served has head usher and was a member of the Adult Bible School Class. George was a former member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. George attended Monroe County Community College. George was a member and past president of Monroe Aviation Boosters Club. He enjoyed flying, rebuilding tractors, gardening and building homes. George is survived by 2 loving children; Ronald G. (Michelle) Whitaker of Morenci, MI and Gloria J. Whitaker of Monroe, MI. 4 sisters; Betty (Clarence) Burke of Ida, MI, Patty (Vaughn) Turner of Monroe, MI, Joyce (John) Moyers of Warren, OH and Donna Hensley of Monroe, MI, and 7 cherished grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents George was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Joseph and Kyle Whitaker. Visitation for George will be held on Wednesday from 2-9 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. He will lie instate on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church from 10 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11 AM. The Rev. Stanley R. AuBuchon will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park under the auspices of the VFW. Post 1138. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
