George Roderic Navarre

George Roderic Navarre May 28, 1928 – October 14, 2018 George "Rod" Roderic Navarre, a leading Monroe area farmer for many years, who was a descendant of the early Navarre settlers in southeastern Michigan and northern Ohio, age 90, passed on to be with his pre-deceased wife, Dorothy Jean Blanchard Navarre; his parents; brother, Peter Alexander Navarre, and sisters, Sheila Navarre Enos and Jean Navarre Brown. His family surrounded him during his passing. Born May 28, 1928 in Monroe, Roderic was the son of the late George Raphael and Lillian (Stewart) Navarre. Roderic attended Rutgers Preparatory School and graduated from Monroe High School in 1946. Roderic’s mother Lillian once wrote in her journal “Rod has a great talent for sharp, clear, compact and pertinent expression and penetrating perception. He is not wordy.” There was never any doubt on where you stood with Rod or what he thought of the past and present world history. He was kind to cats, dogs and all the creatures of God. After graduating he worked on the family farm and then accepted a position with the advertising division of Ford Tractor in Dearborn, Michigan. In Detroit he met the love of his life, Dorothy. They married and then he immediately shipped out to the Korean War, serving in the Army. After his service in the Army, he and Dorothy returned to the Navarre Family Farm in Monroe, preserving the Navarre and Stewart Farms, with his brother and sisters. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Monroe. He and his wife Dorothy took an active part in the affairs of their township, their county and their country. He was a delegate to the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey. G. Roderic leaves behind a grateful family which deeply misses him; his three children Gregory (Cherlyn) Navarre-[Navy], Stewart (Yana) Navarre-[Marines], Jacques (Dorothea) Navarre, six grandchildren Joseph (Sarah)-[Navy], Zachary-[Marines], Alexandra-[Army], Laura (Kevin), Stewart (Conni), Jodie, and five great grandchildren, Victoria, Ava, Merritt, Thomas, and Athena. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Grace Hospice of Ann Arbor and Elderly Solutions of Monroe for their dedicated care. Memorial donations in the name of G. Roderic Navarre, may be made to the Humane Society of Monroe County, 833 N. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan 48162 or the Trinity Episcopal Church Legacy Fund, 11 W. Third Street, Monroe MI 48161 A private memorial service will be held on the Navarre Farm.
