Geneva Shoffner, 76, of Monroe, passed away at 1:35 PM Monday, March 19, 2007 in the Mercy Memorial Nursing Center where she had been for 2 weeks. She had been in poor health for a month and seriously ill since entering the nursing home. She was born February 20, 1931 in Harrogate, TN to Birtis Alden and Oddie Virginia (Jesse) Kelly. On October 31, 1951 she married Charles Rufus Shoffner in Warren. Sadly, he preceded her in death on May 5, 1993. She is survived by a son, Larry Shoffner and daughter-in-law, Joanne Burns of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, and 2 brothers, Lawrence Kelly of Florida and Clayton Kelly of Ohio. She was also preceded in death by 4 brothers, Palmer, Paris, Banner, and Clarence Kelly, and 4 sisters, Lula Belle Hurst, Hazel Cosby, Ollie Mae Edmondson, and Retha Sparks. Friends may call 1-8 PM Wednesday at the Bacarella Funeral Home. She will lie in state Thursday from 3 PM until her funeral service at 3:30 PM in the Mausoleum at Roselawn Memorial Park. Rev. Roy Southerland of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Memorial gifts in her name may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
