Gayl Marie Martin, a devoted mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 18th, after a battle with a number of health issues spanning over the last six years.
She is survived by her brother Terrence Crutchfield and nieces Amy and Amanda, as well as her former husband John Martin in which they had three children: Schalan, Johnny (Mary), and Mara (Ryan Vandenburg). Her legacy continues through her seven beloved grandchildren: Zackary, Weston, Keira, Jenny, Kelley, Aria, and Vera.
Born June 13, 1955 in Monroe, Gayl was a 1973 graduate of Monroe High School. Her life journey began as a dedicated homemaker for over two decades, until her passion for exploration led her to a career as a flight attendant with Delta Airlines, allowing her to travel the globe. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Gayl was a remarkable seamstress who found joy in sewing, leaving behind a trail of beautifully crafted creations from wedding veils, costumes, and interior designs. Her heart also found fulfillment in the company of her cherished grandchildren, with whom she spent many precious moments with.
Gayl's memory will forever be treasured by those who knew and loved her, especially with the help over the last two years of care from her sisters Julie, Mary, Noreen, and Barb Martin. As she joins her parents, Arie and Dorothy Crutchfield in the afterlife, her legacy of love, dedication, and creativity lives on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In accordance with family wishes, cremation has been arranged through Bacarella Funeral Home. A memorial visitation is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 25th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. All are welcome to visit and share memories of Gayl.
