Fred H. Richardson, 59 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away at Mercy Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 23, 2007, after losing a two year battle with cancer. Fred had been in the hospital since Monday with his loving family at his bedside. Fred was born March 9, 1948 in Middlesboro, KY the son of Lawrence C. and Eula G. (Bussell) Richardson. Fred was a 1966 graduate of Monroe High School. Fred earned both his Bachelor's Degree and his Master's Degree from Eastern Michigan University and was currently completing his Specialist Degree. Fred retired from the County of Monroe on June 1, 2007, after twenty five years of service. He worked at the Monroe County Youth Center and most recently at the Monroe County Community Mental Health Authority as a counselor and social worker at Lincoln Elementary School in the School Success Program. Fred's hobbies included; traveling, guns, playing the guitar, hunting and fishing. Fred was a member of the Monroe County Rod and Gun Club and the National Rifle Association. Fred is survived by his dear mother Eula of Monroe, his beloved daughter Jontai (Brian) Binder and his 3 cherished grandchildren Zachary, Julianna and Makaley Binder all of Hawaii, his sisters, Linda (Ron) Crabtree and Sharon Cawood of Monroe, his nieces, Kim (Mike) Greer of Monroe, Lori (Joseph) Rodrigo of San Diego, CA and his nephew Jerry Cawood II of Monroe. Sadly Fred was preceded in death by his father, and his brother Johnnie Richardson. Visitation for Fred will be held on Sunday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, August 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. James Jacobs Chaplain of Mercy Memorial Hospice will officiate. Interment will follow at Historic Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Fred wanted memorial contributions to be given to the children of Lincoln Elementary School.
