Fred W. Bayer, 105, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 4, 2010, in Fountainview of Monroe, where he had been since June 29th. Prior to that he had been in the hospital since June 24. He was born in Detroit, MI on February 4, 1905 to Wenzel W. and Aurelia (LaDuke) Bayer. On January 7, 1928, in Detroit, he married Blanche M. Van Waeyenberghe. After 78 years of marriage she preceded him in death on June 29, 2006. He retired from McCormick Industries, Detroit, in 1970, after 50 years as the Vice President of the company. He and Blanche came to Monroe in 1976 from St. Clair Shores, MI; they were members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Monroe. Fred was an avid boater who enjoyed fishing, he liked watching sports on television, and watching the guys play pool at Mable Kehres Apartments. He played the organ, and was also a member of the Center for Healthy Aging, formerly Monroe Senior Center. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include, a daughter, Rosemary Tabbert of Monroe, a brother, William (Betty) Bayer of Harper Woods, 3 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Sadly, along with his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, 4 brothers, and a sister. At his request, cremation has taken place, and all services will be private. Inurnment will take place next to his wife at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe. The Bacarella Funeral Home has been privileged to assist the family with all arrangements. Memorial gifts in Fred's name may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
