Obituary

Evelyn Jeanine Pope, age 95 of Monroe, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Born May 4, 1929 in Monroe, Evelyn was the daughter of the late William and Cora (Jennings) Pope. She graduated from Monroe High School and took instructional college courses for her career path.
After high school, Evelyn worked for Weis Manufacturing in Monroe for 15 years. She was then employed by La-Z-Boy for 28 years before retiring.
Evelyn attended Monroe Missionary Baptist Church and was a sustaining member of the Monroe Thrift Shop, member and Past President of Altrusa International, and life member of the Sawyer Homestead. She volunteered for the Custer School Host Program for 8 years and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Monroe Missionary Baptist Church Women's Circle.
Evelyn enjoyed many travels to Europe, other parts of the world, and extensively throughout the United States. She played golf for many years until her health wouldn't allow her to continue. She liked tending to her garden, reading anything available, and doing crossword puzzles. The years meeting and corresponding with the many friends she met while traveling, made her later years very enjoyable. When computers replaced hand mail, it became much easier for her to stay in touch and up to date with her friends and family. Her life was fulfilling.
Evelyn is survived by a brother, Ronald (Ruby) Pope of Monroe; Nieces, Kimberly Timko of Monroe and Julia Dow of DE; nephews, James Pope, Sr. of NE and Michael (Julie) Pope of Monroe; great-nieces, Amy Harizipotoss of MO, Audrey Pope of NE and Kiarra Dow of DE; great-nephews, John and Jason Risbon of PA, James Pope, Jr. of MO, Andrew Pope of MO, Mitchell Timko of Monroe, and Andrew Pope of Monroe.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Arris Pope and Harold Dean Pope; and dear friend, George A. Dufour.
In accordance with Evelyn's wishes, private visitation was held at Bacarella Funeral Home followed by a graveside service for burial at Roselawn Memorial Park. For anyone wanting to honor memories of Evelyns's life, please consider supporting Monroe Missionary Baptist Church.
