Ethel Short, 86 years, of Monroe, MI, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Ethel had been in declining health since December.
Ethel was born January 20, 1924 in Petersburg, MI the daughter of the late John and Hattie (Brose) Wagenknect. In 1943 Ethel married Howard F. Cooley in Monroe, she then married Henry E. Short in 1968. She was preceded in death by both husbands'.
Ethel was a homemaker and worked as a housekeeper for several families in Monroe. She was a member of Monroe Missionary Baptist Church where she was known as the "craft lady" and taught Sunday School for many years. Ethel enjoyed all types of crafts and donated many of her works to the church. Ethel traveled to the Lutheran Home to visit with the elderly where she taught the bible and shared the Gospel. She spoke to everyone she met about her love for Jesus and offered to pray for anyone that asked. She held bible study in her home and loved to play her organ and sing. Ethel was a loving and caring Christian person whom will be greatly missed, but will be a wonderful addition to Heaven.
Ethel is survived by 4 loving children; John W. (Theresa) Cooley of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Robert H. (Karen) Cooley, James E. Cooley and Linda S. (Frank) Stump all of Monroe, a son in law Pete Perez of Milwaukee, WI, 9 cherished grandchildren; Jeffrey Parkans, Paul (Selma) Goetz, Susan Parkans, Jeremy (Denise) Cooley, Jason Cooley, Joshua (Jessica) Cooley, Jennifer Cooley, Heather (Bryan) Litchfield and Karen (Devin) Durocher, and 17 treasured great grandchildren. In addition to her spouses and parents Ethel was preceded in death by 1 daughter Judy Cooley – Perez and a granddaughter Kimberly Dawn Cooley.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
