Ethel M. Burkett, age 96, of Monroe, MI passed away, at 10:05 PM at the Lutheran Home in Monroe on Friday, January 9, 2009. According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Neapolis, OH. Born April 8, 1912 in Bowling Green, OH, Ethel was the daughter of Odell and Lucy Gonyer. Ethel attended Bowling Green High School. Ethel married Joe Burkett on March 31, 1928 in Bowling Green, they came to Monroe in 1939. She enjoyed bowling and traveling. Ethel was a member and past president of several bowling leagues in Monroe. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Frenchtown Senior Citizens Center and the Monroe Center for Healthy Aging. Ethel is survived by her son William E. (Nancy) Burkett of Monroe, a daughter; Betty J. Duvall of Warren, MI, five grandchildren; Diane (James) Vinoski of South Haven, MI, Timothy (Lisa) Duvall of Warren, MI, Daniel (Marsha) Burkett of Monroe, David E. Burkett of Ida, MI, and Dale (Connie) Burkett of Monroe, nine great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, her parents, an infant son Robert Lee, three sisters and one brother. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Heartland Hospice, the Lutheran Home or charity of the donor's choice. The Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, is assisting her family with funeral arrangements.
