Obituary

Ernie Lee Owens Sr., 62 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:59 PM. Ernie passed away unexpectedly in the emergency room at Mercy Memorial Hospital. Ernie was born April 22, 1947 in Monroe the son of the late Hubert J. and Tempie C. (Crutchfield) Owens. Ernie attended Mason High School. In 1970 Ernie fell in love with and married his beloved wife, the former Ann T. Brancheau, the Rev. Fred Swank performed the ceremony. Ernie worked for 15 years as a currier for several banks in the Monroe area, prior to that he worked as a porter for Monroe Dodge and Bob Russeau Motor Sales. Ernie was an active member of Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center where he was a greeter, a member of the courtesy team and took part in the Christmas program. Ernie enjoyed going to flea markets, auctions and garage sales. He enjoyed antiques, working on automobiles, watching wrestling and helping lead people to the Lord. Ernie's favorite time was family game night. Ernie is survived by his beloved wife Ann, 6 loving children; William R. (Angie) Owens of Monroe, Brian D. (Candace "Kansas") Owens of Carleton, Gary J. (Karen) Cole of Romulus, Ernie L. (Paula) Owens Jr. of Monroe, Tammy L. (Ancel) Ervin and Tina M. Owens both of Monroe, 16 treasured grandchildren; Amy (Pete), Allison, Kaycie, Jacey, Jett, Jaxon, Chase, Kody, Jessica, Sarah, Laura, Kaitlyn, Ashley (Joe), Jessica, Sarah and Emily, 2 cherished great grandsons Matthew and Nicholas and one great grandson on the way, 3 brothers; Bernie L. (Dortha) of LaSalle, Parks W. (Carlaine) of Ida and William E. of Carleton and Shirley A. Owens of Monroe. In addition to his parents Ernie was preceded in death by 2 brothers; James and Fred. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home. On Tuesday, February 9, 2010 he will lie in state at Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. The Rev.'s Sam Luke, Joseph Byrd and Fred Swank will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Stewart Road Christian Ministries Center.
