Ernest E. "Ernie" Goodman, age 76 of Monroe, passed away unexpectedly Friday evening, January 5, 2024 in his home.
Born August 2, 1947 in Monroe, Ernie was the son of the late Ernest J. and Josephine I. (Duvall) Goodman. He was a 1966 graduate of Jefferson High School and married Margaret A. Goins on October 29, 1966 at the First Wesleyan Church in Monroe. A month later he entered the U.S. Army and proudly served his country from Nov. 10, 1966 until being honorably discharged on August 20, 1968.
Ernie was employed by Ford Motor Company in Monroe for 36 years and was a member of its volunteer fire department, retiring as a Welder Repair Leader in March of 2005.
Ernie was a life member of the First Wesleyan Church. At the former Monroe church, he served as a trustee and former board member, taught Sunday School, and volunteered as a bus driver. He was also a member of Gideons International.
Ernie believed in serving God, his country, and his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Ernie is survived by a daughter, Ruth Marie "Ruthie" (James) Venier of Monroe; sister, Linda Witt of Taylor, MI; and his four-legged companion and shadow, his pet dog Tabbie.
Ernie was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Goodman, mother, Josephine Werner, and sadly, his loving wife on January 3, 2019.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Visitation will continue at 11 a.m. Thursday until funeral service at 1 p.m. Rev. Bob Hinz, pastor of Bedford Alliance Church, where Ernie worshipped on Sunday's, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military honors provided by Monroe VFW Post 1138.
