Obituary

Elma Mae Collum, 75, of Monroe, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Friday, January 11, 2008. She had been in poor health since September 12, 2007, and seriously ill since January 3. She was born on October 3, 1932 in Plainwell, MI to Frank J. and Odessa (Drewyor) Nickles. They moved to Monroe when she was a child. On January 5, 1951 she married Harry J. Collum Sr. in Monroe. At on time she worked for Michigan Bell, Monroe, Foam Rubber Products, Monroe, and retired from the Holiday Inn, Monroe. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and enjoyed spending her time with her family, especially her precious grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her spare time she crocheted, bowled, and played yacht-zee and cards. She leaves to mourn her loving husband, cherished children, Harry Jr. (Bonnie), Brian (Dawn), Kenneth, Michael (Frances), Ronald (Lisa) and, John Collum, Patricia (Chipper) Smith, and Peggy (Wade) Tolle, all of Monroe, 21 endeared grandchildren, 23 treasured great grandchildren, and dear sisters, Velma Haynes of Livonia, Kathryn (Richard) Dreier of Woodville, OH, Shirley (Richard Sommers of Monroe, and Rosemary (Robert) Bezeau of Mt. Clemens. Sadly, her beloved parents preceded her in death. Friends may call at the Bacarella Funeral Home on Saturday from 6-8 PM and Sunday from 1-8 PM. A scripture service will be held at 6 PM Sunday at the funeral home. She will Lie in State Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroe from 10 AM until a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 AM. Concelebrating the mass will be Fr. Ray Lewandowski of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Wyandotte and Fr. William Fisher of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Monroe. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe. Memorial gifts in her name may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
