Elise Fowler, age 98, of Monroe, went Home to be with her Lord, Thursday, September 21, 2023, in her home surrounded by her family.
Elise was born October 8, 1924, in Pruden, TN; she was the daughter of William and Rose (Williams) Jones. She married William Fowler in 1948; sadly, he preceded her in death April 28, 1998. Elise and her husband Bill moved to Monroe in 1952, where together they raised their three beloved children Doris, Jerry, and Judie. For many years Elise was a cashier for Grubers Grocery Store and eventually Food Town.
Nothing was more important to Elise than her faith and her family, who truly meant the very world to her. Elise was a charter member of Heritage Baptist Church, where she enjoyed attending services, nourishing her spirt with God's word, and fellowshipping with her beloved church family. Elise found her faith young and never wavered, and she saw every day as another chance to honor God and to live as Christ-like a life as she could.
One of Elise's greatest joys was feeding people, and she was known especially for her Tennessee Stack Cake, Texas Sheet Cake, Pistachio Coffee Cake, and bountiful Christmas goodies. Elise also loved gardening and watching the birds at the birdfeeders in her yard, and if you visited her, it was likely that she would soon be directing your attention out the window to one of her feathered friends. Elise was hardworking, generous, loving, and kind, with a sly sense of humor and a beautiful laugh.
Elise is survived by her daughter, Doris Gensler of Waterville, OH; four siblings: Irene Teague of Eagon, TN, Nancy McCay of Dalton, GA, Casey (Linda) Jones of Monroe, and Elizabeth Bowling of Monroe; two sisters-in-law, Frankie Johnson and Mary Jones; five grandchildren: Mark Gensler, Tony Bellestri, Jeff Gensler, Tani Bellestri, and Bobby Wilson; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Elise is preceded in death by her parents; son Jerry Long; daughter Judie Wilson; and four siblings: Pete Jones, Marge Scott, Charlie Jones, and Dana Jones.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday, September 25, 2023, at Heritage Baptist Church, 612 Strasburg Rd., Monroe, MI 4816. Rev. Nate Click, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle. Bacarella Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Heritage Baptist Church Building Fund.
