Elaine M. Halstead, age 85, of Monroe, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023, peacefully in her home.
Elaine was born February 3, 1938, in Monroe, she was the daughter of Noel Langton and Loretta (Miller) Guire. She was married to Ronald A. Halstead; he precedes her in death.
She was a 1955 graduate of St. Mary's Academy and a 1960 graduate of the Michigan College of Beauty. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, doing pottery and thrifting. She was a volunteer for Heartbeat of Monroe, a member of the Red Hat Society, Frenchtown Senior Citizens, and Marian Helpers. Elaine always looked forward to spending time with her grandchildren, playing the card game, hand and foot. Many evening at the lake were spent with her grandchildren playing hand and foot, grandma and her partner were victorious 99.9% of the time, she was a very passionate player. In earlier years Elaine enjoyed heading north to the cabin as well. She experienced her first canoeing adventure going down the Au Sable River, spending evenings sitting around the bonfire, and just taking in the northern fresh air.
Elaine was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Church, where she served as the church secretary from 1986 until her retirement in 2000. She was also a member of the Rosary making group and helped with funeral luncheons.
She is survived by five children, Robert N. (Karen) Halstead of Petersburg, Rhonda Halstead of Monroe, Michael M. Halstead of Temperance, MaryAnne Halstead of Rossford, OH and Jean (Dan) Renaud of Livonia; nine grandchildren, Robert J. (Natalie), Heather, Aaron (Michella), Meghanne (Brent), Mandi (Jake), Brittany (Michael), Mac, Zoe and Danica ; nine great grandchildren; sister, Lois Liparato of Monroe and brother, Charles Guire of Manchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marvin "Buster" Guire and grandson, Philip Halstead.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe; where the Rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. that evening. She will lie instate Friday, October 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church with a Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Rev. Brian Chabala will officiate. Private burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe.
