Edwin Sellers' Obituary
Edwin J. Sellers, 91 years, passed away peacefully to his heavenly reward on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 3:45 AM in Fort Wayne, IN, after a brief illness.
Born April 28, 1921 in Toledo, OH, Ed was the son of the late Roy and Ilo (Stephens) Sellers. Ed attended Monroe High School and in 1938 began working at Woodall Industries. Ed worked his way up in the company to become a supervisor.
On April 26, 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe, Ed married his beloved wife the former Shirley H. Brock. Sadly she preceded him in death on July 30, 2012 after 71 years of marriage.
During his tenure at Woodall, Ed was called to duty and served in the US Navy during WWII. Ed served his country honorably and proudly from September 7, 1942 until November 16, 1945. For his duty he received the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the Victory and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1973 Ed and Shirley moved to Kendallville, IN, where Ed became the plant manager of Fibertech, from which he retired in 1983.
Ed was a member of Zion Lutheran Church while living in Monroe and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church while in Fort Wayne, IN. Ed and Shirley shared in many travels including wintering in Texas and seeing the country coast-to-coast. He enjoyed being outdoors doing things like fishing, boating, camping, snowmobiling, and oil painting. Ed was a life member of the VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville, IN.
Ed is survived by his daughter Sandra (Eugene) Howerton of Harrison, MI, his son L.J."Jim" (Yvonne) Sellers of Monroe, MI, and his daughter Susan (Ned) Gatchell of Fort Wayne, IN; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. His love and caring advice will be greatly missed
In addition to his wife and parents, Ed was preceded in death by a brother: Robert Sellers and a sister: Betty Burke.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, October 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Thomas Speidel, pastor of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, IN, will officiate. Ed will be interred next to his wife at Roselawn Memorial Park.
