Edwin L. Harwood, 61 years, of Monroe, Michigan went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in his home and surrounded by family.
Born February 15, 1955 in Ionia, Michigan, Ed was the son of Edwin R. and Angeline M. (Plantamura) Harwood.
Ed was a 1973 graduate of Monroe High School. He furthered his education and received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University where he majored in finance.
On August 27, 1977, Ed married his beloved wife, the former Pamela K. Sinas at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lansing, Michigan.
Ed worked at the family car dealership, Ed Harwood Buick Pontiac, in Monroe for almost 30 years where he served as general manager. In 2005 he started Harwood Investment Strategies in Monroe, which he owns with his son Eddie. He was on the board of directors at Monroe Bank and Trust.
Ed was an active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo, OH where he served on the church board as well as an integral member of the Greek Festival committee.
Ed was a long-standing member of Rotary Club of Monroe, Monroe Education Foundation, Community Foundation of Monroe Grant Committee, and served on the steering committee for the Academy Preserve. Ed enjoyed golf, traveling, hiking, reading and watching MSU Football and Basketball. Most of all Ed loved spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Pam, two loving children: Edwin T. (Marisa Rodriguez) Harwood of Ann Arbor, MI and Anthony J. (Christine) Harwood of Sylvania, OH, two cherished grandchildren: Gabriella and Dominic, his parents: Edwin and Angeline Harwood of Monroe, his grandmother Agnes Harwood of Clarksville, MI, three siblings, John I. (Pamela A.) Harwood of Grosse Ile, MI, Yvonne M. (Mark) Davison of LaSalle, MI and Bryan P. (Nancy) Harwood of Monroe, and two brothers-in-law: George T. (Sheryl) Sinas of Okemos, MI and Daniel A. (Susan) Sinas of Dothan, AL. Sadly Ed was preceded in death by his grandparents: Irwin Harwood and Giovanni and Giovannina Plantamura.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI, 48161, where a Trisagion Service will be held at 7:00 PM. On Tuesday, October 4, 2016 he will lie in state at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Toledo from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating his life at 11:00 AM. Fr. Larry Legakis, pastor of the church, will officiate. Ed will be interred at St. Joseph Cemetery in Monroe.
