Edward W. Waltz, age 80 of Newport, passed away Monday, November 14, 2022 at Wellspring Lutheran Home. Ed had been in declining health for a year.
Born September 9, 1942 in Monroe, he was the son of the late Victor and Elva (Mack) Waltz. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1960 and married Cheryl F. Lyons at St. John Lutheran Church in Waltz, MI on September 5, 1964.
Ed was a Michigan Farm Bureau agent for over forty-two years. His love for fishing the Great Lakes led him to obtaining a captain's license. In retirement he ran a successful charter boat business specializing in walleye and perch out of Brest Bay Marina. He was always happy to donate fishing charters for area fundraisers. He was a volunteer fireman with Newport Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Pheasants Forever, Moose Lodge and the Monroe Club.
Ed had many hobbies and interests. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards and darts, cooking, gardening, and visiting casinos.
Ed is survived by a daughter, Gena Mata of Clarksville, TN; two sisters, Janice (Arnold) Reaume and Vicky Masserant, both of Monroe; three grandchildren, Cameron (Taylor) Carroll, Caitlin (Ryan) Grumme, and Caylee DeWachter; two great-grandchildren, Ava and Wyatt Carroll; sister-in-law, Vickie Waltz of Monroe; several nieces and nephews; and will also be missed by countless friends.
In addition to his parents, Ed was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Waltz.
Family and friends may visit from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18th at Bacarella Funeral Home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Mark Wellhousen, pastor of Carleton Church of God will officiate followed by burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
