Edna R. Kinsey, age 94 of Monroe, passed away peacefully Friday, November 25, 2022 in her home.
Born August 22, 1928 in Monroe, Edna was the daughter of the late Arnold and Amelia (Bauerle) Emerson. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1947 and married Edward S. Kinsey on May 21, 1949 at St. Michael Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 6, 2001.
Edna was employed by Monroe Public Schools from 1972 to 1991. She was presented with the School Bell Award for her dedication as a teacher's aide.
A life member of St. Michael Catholic Church, Edna was baptized, confirmed, educated, married, and served the parish in various capacities. She was a member of its Catholic Christian Women group (Altar Society), assisted when needed for funeral luncheons, donated her time after weekend masses as a collection counter, and for 42 years, Edna served as a Eucharistic Minister at Mass as well as distributing Holy Communion to hospital patients and the housebound.
For 63 years, Edna was a devoted member of Boy Scouts of America. She served as a Den Leader, Den Mother, Den Leader Coach, Trainer, and as a member of the Sunshine Committee. She was recognized for her caring and faithful service by receiving many awards including the District Award of Merit, Cross of Jerusalem, St. George Catholic Award, Silver Fawn, and the Silver Beaver.
For all of Edna's community involvement, she was nominated by the late Honorable Judge Michael Weipert and presented with the Liberty Bell Award by our local Bar Association, honoring her at both local and state levels. She had a fondness of cardinals and was an avid Detroit Tigers Baseball fan.
Edna is survived by five children: Cathy (Larry) Reaume of Monroe, Rick (Debbie) Kinsey of Monroe, Chris Kinsey of Yantis, TX, Beth (Tim) Gonyea of Monroe, and Kyle (Michelle) Kinsey of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Vickie Kinsey of LaSalle; 16 grandchildren: Alice Reaume, Karen (Brian) Robinson, Greg Kinsey, Jr., Susan Kinsey, John (Mary) Kinsey, Alex (Nicole) Kinsey, Brenda (Dave) Patterson, Luke (Heidi) Gonyea, Nathan (Ashley) Gonyea, Seth (Natalie) Gonyea, Ryan (Andrea) Kinsey, Jessica Warnka, Scotty (Theresa) Pinson, Joshua (Alyssa) Pinson, Katelyn Colunga, and Maisie (Jason) Kochanski; 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was also preceded in death by a son, Greg Kinsey, Sr.; grandson, Larry Reaume, Jr.; and siblings, Ruth Discher, Arnold Emerson, Jr., Pearl Navarre, and Mabel Rosati.
Family and friends may visit from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2nd at Bacarella Funeral Home. Edna will lie in state at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. by the church pastor, Rev. Fr. Kishore Battu followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery.
