Obituary

Edith I. Rucker, 97 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at 11:54 AM in Mercy Memorial Hospital where she had been for the past week. Edith was born June 5, 1911 in Arthur, TN the eldest of 13 children of the late Henley and Sarah (Maples) Bussell. On June 23, 1929 in Cumberland Gap, TN, Edith married her beloved husband Frank R. Rucker. Sadly, he preceded her in death on December 15, 1963. A true Christian woman, Edith enjoyed reading her Bible and was a member of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church. A homemaker, Edith enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and puzzle books. Edith was quite the story teller and enjoyed sharing her stories with her many friends and with her family whom she loved with all her heart. Edith is survived by 3 beloved children; Christine Standifer of LaSalle, MI, William (Ruby) Rucker of Port Clinton, MI and Willard (Shirley Ann) Rucker of Tazewell, TN, a brother; Ulus (Judy) Bussell of Newport, MI, 3 sisters; Bertha Cole of Temperance, MI, Lois Gibson-Reed of Monroe and Lorene McBee of Niceville, FL, 11 cherished grandchildren, 20 treasured great grandchildren and 13 treasured great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents Edith was preceded in death by 2 daughters; Ethel Rucker and Ester Catron, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Von Loop former pastor of Frenchtown Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
