Earl Vining was born July 29, 1932 in Monroe, MI to the union of Elmer and Annie Vining, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a son Earl Jerome Vining Jr., brothers, Harold, Elmer, & Cordie Vining and sisters, Dr. Shirley Brown and Mozelle Marshall.
Earl graduated from Monroe High School in 1952. He then served in the Korean War from 1952-1954. He was wounded & received an honorable discharge. He received the Purple Heart & Bronze Star for his service.
Earl worked for Ford Motor Co., for 30 yrs, retiring in 1983. Earl was a head coach for the Amateur Boxing at the ALCC Boxing Gym & produced several novice champions and a Toledo Golden Glove Champion. He was selected as a coach to participate in the 1987 National Golden Gloves tournaments in Nashville, TN. He also coached his son Keith for a bout in Italy. He also coached Todd Riggs & Bronco McKart who are near and dear to his heart.
His membership includes 30yrs plus for the American Boxing Federation. Former Third Vice President of NAACP. Lifetime member of Carey Chapel AME Church. United Way Honorary Volunteer award, along with a Monroe Black History Positive Influence Award. On March 23, 2002 he was awarded a Special Tribute from the Co. of Monroe Board of Commissioners for sacrificing his time and energy to countless hours of training & practice toward perfecting his & others boxing skills. Received an appreciation award from the ALCC Board & Staff for his decades of volunteer service as the boxing coach & producer of Golden Glove Champions. He received a proclamation from Mayor Cappucilli & City Council dedicating October 15, 2007 as "Vining Day" in Monroe.
Earl married the love of his life Easter Vining. He leaves to cherish his legacy, wife, Easter Vining, brother Kenneth Vining of LaVergne, TN, sons: Mark Keith Vining, Kevin John (Cherly) Vining, Eric Dean Vining, Robert (Laura) Scott Vining, Brian Oliver Vining, of Monroe, Ronald Eric Johnson, Seattle, WA, Daughters, Lisa Jeannine Johnson, West Virginia Jacqueline (Kelvin) McGhee, Karen Martin of Monroe, Kimberly Vining-Bell, Toledo, OH 30 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grand children, a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 6pm until 8pm on Friday in the Bacarella Funeral Home 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161, where funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, March 9, 2013. Rev. Heather Boone will officiate with burial to follow at Woodland Cemetery.
