Douglas William Thoma, age 85, of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 in his home.
Doug was born June 10, 1937 in Monroe, he was the son of Joseph Wilfred and Evelyn Ruth (LaFountain) Thoma. He married Kay Ileene Sineni January 20, 1962.
He was a 1955 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central.
Doug served in the U.S. Air Force from September 13, 1956 until his honorable discharge on September 12, 1960.
He worked as an inspector for Ford Motor Company Stamping Plant and retired in 1996.
Doug was a member of St. John the Baptist Church, UAW Local 387, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Civil Air Patrol and served as the acting chaplain in AMVETS post# 1942. He believed in helping others, donating 25 gallons of blood in his lifetime and being a volunteer probation officer.
He enjoyed traveling, model trains and going to airshows.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kay Thoma of Monroe; two children, Todd D. (Christina) Thoma of Clarkston and Tani M. Thoma of Monroe; one grandson, Joshua Thoma; four siblings, Gary (Beverly) Thoma of Monroe, Brenda Wisniewski of Port Charlotte, FL, Pamela Thoma of Punta Gorta, FL and Prudy (Jim) Harvell of Carleton.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, with a Scripture Service at 6 p.m. He will lie instate at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Baptist Church with Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroe, with Military Honors by VFW Post 1138.
Memorial donations are suggested to St. John the Baptist Church, Knights of Columbus or Civil Air Patrol.
