Douglas A. Schilling, age 71, passed away on December 20, 2023, at Lynwood Manor, Adrian under the care of Elara Caring Hospice.
Doug was born May 28, 1952, in Tecumseh, Michigan. He was the son of Ervin and Virginia (Hubbard) Schilling.
He was a 1970 graduate of Monroe High School.
Doug was drafted into the Army in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1974. He was at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC and West Fort Hood, Killeen, TX.
He retired from La-Z-Boy with his last job being in the Test Lab.
Doug started working as a caddy during high school at the Monroe Golf & Country Club. It was from that job that his passion for golf grew. Doug golfed whenever and wherever he could (even indoors), including times traveling to Kentucky. It wasn't unusual to have a beautiful day in December and figure that he might be out on the links. He also enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Country Kickers. He would frequently go to The Diamondback in Belleville.
He is survived by his mother, Virginia Schilling; three brothers, David (Janet), Steven (Lila), and Timothy (Margaret) Schilling; and sister, Susan (Mark) Tibai; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces/nephews, great-great nieces/nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ervin Schilling, and niece, Mary Grace Tibai.
The family will receive visitors at Bacarella Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2024, beginning at 11:00 AM with a memorial service and the VFW #1138 offering military honors starting at 12:00 noon. Bacarella Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Elara Caring Hospice in honor of Doug's memorial wishes.
Interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
