Douglas E. Robinson, 95 years, of Monroe, MI passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at Tendercare of Monroe. Doug was born February 8, 1915 in Put-in-Bay, OH, the son of the late Dr. Parker B. and Eina W. (Weisel) Robinson. Doug was a 1933 graduate of Scott High School in Toledo, OH. He furthered his education by attending The University of Michigan, Wayne State University and Monroe County Community College. Doug moved to Monroe in 1934 and on December 1, 1934 he married his beloved wife the former Jean E. Rauch. Sadly she preceded him in death on December 11, 1993 after 59 years of marriage. Also in 1934 Doug joined St. Paul's United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and an usher. Doug was employed as the employment manager of Consolidated in Monroe for 25 years. He then went to work for La-Z-Boy as production planner and scheduler, where he worked for 13 years until his retirement in 1980. After retirement Doug worked part time for Ralph Thayer Automotive as a driver. Doug was very civic minded and was a member of the following; The Monroe Exchange Club where he was a member since 1935 and served as president in 1974 and 1975, The Monroe Elks Lodge, member and past board chair of Mercy Memorial Hospital's Monroe Home Care Connection, board member Mercy Memorial Hospital Foundation, board member Mercy Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, City of Monroe – Zoning Board of Appeals and was a founding member of the Monroe County Personnel Club. Doug also enjoyed golfing and was a former member of the Monroe Golf and Country Club. Doug is survived by his son Douglas E. (Robby) Robinson Jr. of Monroe and his son in law Larry Scroby of Clarkston, MI, 2 cherished granddaughters; Wendy and Pam and 2 treasured great grandchildren; Zachary and Marisa. In addition to his wife and parents Doug was preceded in death by his daughter Marcia Robinson – Scroby, 3 brothers and 1 sister. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 pm in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010 at 11:00 am. The Rev. Evans C. Bentley pastor of the church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or the Mercy Memorial Hospital foundation.
