Dorsia Owens, 90 years, of Dundee, MI went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 7:30 PM in the home of her son in law.
Born March 9, 1920 in Harrogate, TN, Dorsia was the daughter of the late Larn and Lucy (Cosby) Sandefur.
On May 15, 1937 in Tazewell, TN, Dorsia married her beloved husband Arthur Owens. The couple moved to Monroe in 1944 and later settled in Dundee to raise their family. Sadly, Arthur preceded her in death on November 9, 2006 after 69 years of marriage.
Dorsia was a member of Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church in Monroe for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir.
A wonderful homemaker, Dorsia also worked as a cook for The Lutheran Home, Beach Nursing Home, Vince's A&W Hotdog Stand in Monroe and Jack's Hotdog Stand in Dundee. Dorsia was truly a Christian woman who enjoyed her church, gardening and above all else her loving family.
Dorsia is survived by 2 loving children; Carl L. (Linda A.) Owens of Dundee and Kathleen Smith of Knoxville, TN, her son in law and care giver John L. Lawson Sr. of Dundee, a daughter in law Margaret Owens of Dundee, 6 treasured grandchildren; Vicki (Smith) Callahan, Brenda Smith, Charlie Owens, John Jr., James and Crystal Lawson, 7 cherished great grandchildren; Clint and Jessica Callahan, Lillie Grace Smith, Matthew, Garrett, Grace and Emma Lawson, 1 brother Eugene (Joyce) Sandefur of Toledo, OH and a sister in law Lois Sandefur.
In addition to her husband and parents, Dorsia was preceded in death by her son Hesper Owens, her daughter Patsy Lawson, 3 brothers; Oval, U.J., and Wheeler Sandefur, and 2 sisters; Pearl Corner and Shirley Yeary.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe, 734-241-4600, where funeral services celebrating Dorsia's life will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. John P. Bullard Jr. pastor of True Gospel Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
