Obituary

Dorothy Jane Slowick, age 89 of Flushing, formerly of Carleton, passed away under the loving care of her family December 4, 2021. No services will be held.
Born October 31, 1932, in Frazee, MN, she was the youngest of nine children. Her parents were Ferdinand and Emily (Besel) Meier.
Dorothy graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, and graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with a Dental Hygiene Degree.
On August 13, 1956, in Lansing, Dorothy married Philip Slowick. He was the great love of her life, and they were married for 63 years. He passed away on October 20, 2019. They met at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he graduated with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. Together they started a dental practice in Carleton, MI, with Dorothy being his dental hygienist. Their practice spanned over 30 years. Dorothy was a mentor to many dental hygienists and was an advocate for the dental hygiene profession.
She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in Waltz, and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe. Joining the Monroe Golf and Country Club, when they first came to Carleton, she and her husband were members for 30 years. Dorothy and her husband were part of a bridge club for many years with couples from Carleton and the downriver area. One of her loves was gardening, and in her earlier years in Carleton she was in the garden club.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking, and the food she prepared was delicious. Her pie crusts were amazing. Dorothy was a stylish, independent, fun-loving woman. She loved being a grandmother, and treasured every moment spent with her grandson, Nick.
She is survived by her daughters Christine (James) Bellestri of Monroe, Julie (Glenn) Holevac of Flushing, MI, and grandson Nicholas (fiancée Bridgette Blazoff) Bellestri, both of Minneapolis, MN.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and eight siblings.
Dorothy lived life as fully and bravely and beautifully as she could.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
