Dorothy M. Matteson, 89 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away, Monday, April 26, 2010 in The Lutheran Home where she has resided for the past 9 years. Dorothy was born April 16, 1921 in Monroe the daughter of the late Henry and Viola (Harpst) Schuster. Dorothy attended school in Monroe and was a 1939 graduate of Monroe High School. On September 14, 1946 in Monroe, Dorothy married her beloved husband Jack J. Matteson. Sadly he preceded her in death on March 22, 1997 after 50 years of marriage. Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. Dorothy worked at Monroe Auto Equipment and was the proprietor of the West Elm Tastee Freez both located in Monroe. Dorothy was also a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, vacationing at her cabin up north and spending time with her family and friends. Dorothy is survived by her 3 loving children; Jon R. (Dawn) Matteson, Mark R. (Connie) Matteson and Christine L. (Daniel) Donahue all of Monroe, 6 cherished grandchildren and 5 treasured great grandchildren and her sister June Matteson also of Monroe. In addition to her husband and parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother Gerald Schuster. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. in Monroe, where funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Stanley Aubuchon retired pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Home.
