Dorothy Edwards

Dorothy L. Edwards, age 76, of Monroe, MI passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Fountain View of Monroe in Monroe, MI. Dorothy had been in poor health for the past 2 months. Dorothy was born March 19, 1932 in Jackson, MS the daughter of the late William and Isa Lee (Milner) Wilson. At an early age Dorothy along with her family moved to Monroe, where Dorothy attended Monroe Public Schools. Dorothy began working in Monroe as a nutrition aid for the Cooperative Extension Services where she worked for 9 years. Dorothy then went to DTE Energy where she worked as a Security Shift Supervisor for 16 years. She retired from that position in 1986. In 1994 Dorothy was elected city councilwoman for the City of Monroe serving in the city’s 3rd precinct. Dorothy held that position until 2007 when she decided not to seek reelection. Dorothy also served on the Arthur Lesow Community Center Board of Directors, the Civil Preparedness Advisory council, the Monroe Port Authority and the Zoning Board of Appeals. Dorothy was a very active member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and it’s Ladies Auxiliary in Monroe, she volunteered for the American Red Cross in Monroe, and help to provide meals for senior citizens. Her hobbies included traveling and spending time her family. Dorothy is survived by her beloved son and daughter in law Willie L. and Deborah Edwards of Monroe, 2 cherished grandchildren; Khara N. and Lacey M. Edwards, 5 cherished great grandchildren; Devan, Johnny, Raquel, Alarrah and Niveah, 1 brother William Wilson Jr. and 2 sisters; Mammie Wilson of Hattiesburg, MS and Dori Wilson of Chicago, IL. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by 1 brother James Henderson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, from 11:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Rance Allen will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to the Arthur Lesow Community Center in Monroe.
