It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Dorothy Ann Bomia, who passed away on March 25th, 2024 at the age of 81 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease Dementia. Her final moments were spent peacefully under the outstanding care from Wellspring Lutheran Services Monroe and Heartland Hospice Monroe, with family by her side.
Born on April 22, 1942, in Maynardville, TN, Dorothy moved to Monroe, MI as a child. She was the daughter of the late James A. Kitts and JoeAnna (Walker) Swiderski.
She attended Monroe Public Schools.
She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband Robert J. Bomia whom she married May 11, 1963 at St. Joesph Church in Monroe, MI. Together they had two children Robert J. Bomia, Jr. and Carolee Goodnough.
Dorothy lived a fulfilled life and was a woman of many talents. She had a passion for cooking and especially baking; she was known for her pumpkin rolls. She hosted all holiday gatherings for her family for years and took great pride in decorating her home to the fullest. Dorothy had a green thumb, loved gardening and doing yard work. She loved to spend time with her family, vacationing (especially to Las Vegas and Hawaii), going to the casino, scratching lottery tickets, shopping, attending auctions, bowling on leagues at Nortel Lanes, watching the Detroit Tigers and nibbling on dark chocolate.
Dorothy was a kind and generous soul, always putting others needs before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her and she will be remembered for her infectious smile, words of wisdom and witty personality. She loved her family with all of her heart.
She is survived by her son Robert J. (Cara) Bomia, Jr., daughter Carolee (Troy) Goodnough, three grandchildren Emily (Cory Congleton) Goodnough, Amber Goodnough and Carson Goodnough, five great-grandchildren Vera, Cohen, Denver, Harper and Hannah Congleton, siblings Nyta Snyder, Margi (Kent) Swick, Nia (Gary) Weisbecker, Edward "Rick" Swiderski, several extended family members and lifelong friends.
She was preceded in death by her father James A. Kitts, mother JoeAnna Swiderski and her former husband Robert J. Bomia, Sr.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Road, Monroe where the memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. Pastor Joel Luallen, Heartland Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Private interment will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park, Lasalle.
