Dorothy M. Bert, 88 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010 in Monroe.
Dorothy was born December 1, 1921 in Newton Falls, OH the daughter of the late John Harold and Esther (Haine) Aduddell. The family moved to Monroe when Dorothy was still a child. Dorothy attended Monroe Public Schools and was a 1940 graduate of Monroe High School. Coincidentally, Dorothy's 70th class reunion, of which she was a committee member, was to be held on September 18. It was while at Monroe High that Dorothy met her sweetheart and on May 23, 1942 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church married Robert G. Bert Sr. Sadly he preceded her in death on May 30, 1995.
During WWII Dorothy worked for the U. S. Defense Department at Woodall Industries. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the United Methodist Women. She was also a Campfire Leader.
Most of all Dorothy was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dorothy is survived by 3 loving children; Robert G. (Gail) Bert Jr. of North Street, MI, Jan K. (Peter) Centa of Monroe, MI and Marilyn L. (Steve) Hearst of Temperance, MI. 9 cherished grandchildren; Kelli Bert, Scott (Kathy) Bert, Hollie (Bob) Mervich, Eric (Jill) Bert, Lyric (Don) Hodgson, Lori Centa, Michael (Erin) Centa, and Jill and Tyler Hearst, 12 treasured great grandchildren, a sister; Mary Lou (Blaine) Zimmerman of Monroe. In addition to her beloved husband of 53 years and her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by 3 brothers; her twin Jack, Thomas and Harold.
Friends may visit on Sunday from 1-5 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd in Monroe. On Monday, September 20, 2010 a memorial service celebrating Dorothy's life will be held in St. Paul's United Methodist Church at 11:00 am. The Rev. Evans C. Bentley pastor of the church and Dorothy's nephew, the Rev. Thomas Zimmerman pastor of Lambertville United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment at Roselawn Memorial Park will be private.
