Obituary

Doris T. Lester, 78 years, of Monroe, MI passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2010 in her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Doris was born February 20, 1932 in Detroit, MI the daughter of the late Louis and Florence (Cyr) Knapp. Doris grew up in Monroe and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Doris was a 1950 graduate of Monroe High School.
On January 19, 1952 Doris married her beloved husband Roy Gene Lester at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Doris was employed by La-Z-Boy Chair Company for 38 years retiring in 1999 as the payroll supervisor.
Doris was a member of Monroe Senior Citizens. She enjoyed traveling, spending time at the family cabin up north and trips to the casino. Most of all Doris was a people person and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
Doris is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Gene, 2 loving daughters; Denise M. (Kent) Kaiser and Kathy A. (Rick) Colpaert both of Monroe, 5 cherished grandchildren; Renee (Bobby) Zimmerman, Derek Kaiser, Matt (Shauna) Colpaert, Brent Kaiser, and Kyle (Sarah) Kaiser, 1 treasured great grandson Connor Zimmerman, 1 brother; Louie (Betty) Knapp, 2 sisters; Irene (David) Yinger of Temperance, MI and Seone Miller of Portland, OR. In addition to her parents Doris was preceded in death by a brother Herb Knapp and 1 sister Eleanor Mier.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe where a Scripture Service will be held at 6:00 PM. On Monday, May 24, 2010 she will lie in state at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 9:30 AM until a Mass of the Resurrection celebrating her life at 10:30 AM. Fr. Marc Gawronski will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe, The American Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice.
