Donald Ray Fox, age 83 of Monroe and Fort Myers Beach, FL, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital after being in declining health for a year.
Born November 23, 1938 in Monroe, Don was the son of the late Erby and Garnet (Carr) Fox. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Army. Don served from Feb. 26, 1958 until being honorably discharged on Feb. 24, 1961. He returned to Monroe and was soon employed by Detroit Edison where he worked for 30+ years as a System Analyst. During that time, Don attended and earned a bachelor degree from the Detroit Institute of Technology.
Don possessed a passion for life, the outdoors, and friendly competition. He enjoyed competing in running marathons, shooting pool, golfing, playing tennis or racquetball. Some of his other recreational hobbies include sailing, snow skiing, boating, fishing and hunting. To no surprise, Don was a life member of the Monroe County Rod and Gun club as well as Monroe Lodge 27 F&AM.
Don is survived by three children, Shanda (Christopher) Crowley of Commerce Township, MI, Donald (Carrie) Fox of LaSalle, MI, and Rodney (Bien) Fox of Monroe; seven grandchildren; and his companion of 22 years, Annie Loughridge.
In addition to his parents, Don was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Judith Paulette Fox.
Family and friends may visit from 4 p.m. until time of funeral at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6th at Bacarella Funeral Home. Monroe VFW Post 1138 will offer military honors followed by a Scriptural Service led by Rev. Fr. David Burgard of St. Mary Catholic Church. Cremation and interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in accordance with Don's wishes.
