Donald Dean Dixon, 89 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Angela Hospice in Livonia.
Born November 15, 1936 in Monroe, Dean was the son of the late Claud and Corrine (Mills) Dixon. He attended Monroe Public Schools.
Dean married the former Patsy Marie Greer.
Dean served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Coast Guard. He served from June 29, 1954 until March 31, 1958. His reserved duties continued for another 4 years. He received the National Defense Service Medal.
Dean worked for DT&I Railroad, which is now Grand Trunk Railroad, for over 30 years, from which he retired as a Conductor in Flat Rock.
He was known for his quick wit, a great sense of humor and a generous heart.
Dean enjoyed cooking, listening to Gospel music and was an avid marathon runner, earning numerous medals and awards throughout his running career. More than anything Dean enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.
Dean is survived by five loving children; Cheryl (Bob) Johnson, Connie (Doug) Dale, Eva (Jerry) Gorman, all of Monroe, Michael (Shana) Buckley of New Hampshire and Joseph (Ashley) Dixon of Richland, Michigan, 12 cherished grandchildren; Jamey (Emily) Buckner, Cole (Carly) Johnson, Shane (Bri) Gerber, Lindsay (Jordan) Nadeau, Joey, Joshua, Caleb, Jeff (Kim) Dale, Roger Buckley, Dyllon, Devon and Dayton Dixon, 9 treasured great grandchildren; Brinley, Elle and Avery Buckner, Bennett Johnson, Charlotte and Sophia Gerber, Henry Nadeau and Robert and Ronan Dale, a sister; Brenda (Clem) Johnson and a brother; Bill (Sally) Dixon.
In addition to his parents Dean was preceded in death by two sisters; Rita Scott and Donna Shroyer, three brothers; Claude, Calvin, and Paul and great grandson, Bean Johnson.
In keeping with Dean’s wishes all services will be private and military honors will be conducted by the VFW post 1138 at his gravesite.
Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan is assisting Dean’s family with funeral arrangements.
