Donald E. Benore, age 76, a lifelong resident of Monroe, MI passed away, Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 5:55 PM in his home. He had been in poor health since April of this year. Don was born July 5, 1931 in Monroe the son of the late John and Luella (Sachs) Benore. After graduation from Monroe High School, Don went on to serve our country in the US Navy from January 2, 1951 to November 12, 1954. While in the Navy Don received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. On May 5, 1956 Don married Theresa R. Oley at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe. Sadly she preceded him in death on February 26, 1996. Don worked as a carpenter for Turner – Brooks Co. in Toledo, OH for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Don was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Don was a member of the V.F.W. Newport Post 3943 where he was the chaplain, chaired the entertainment committee, conducted the fish fry's, served as an honor guard and was on the funeral detail. Don enjoyed painting, both playing and coaching softball and lawn work. Don is survived by his loving daughters, Lorrie L. Lapinski and her fiancé Roy Molter of Wyoming, MI and Sandra L. Cox of MS, 2 sisters, Elta (Hobert) Meyers and Katherine Dingledine of Monroe, 4 cherished grandchildren and 3 cherished great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Theresa and his parents, Don was preceded in death by 2 brothers. Visitation for Don will held on Saturday from 4-8 PM and Sunday from 12-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Monday, September 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM the Rev. Stanley R. AuBuchon pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the V.F.W. Newport Post 3943 will conduct military honors. Memorial contributions may be given to Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe, Trinity Lutheran Church or V.F.W. Newport Post 3943.
