Donald C. "Bear" Laney, 80 years, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Medilodge of Monroe.
Born March 6, 1945, in Monroe, Don was the son of the late Charley and Bernice (Miller) Laney. Don attended Monroe Public Schools and Monroe High School.
On February 16, 1980, Don married his beloved wife, the former Sylvia J. Evans, at First Wesleyan Church in Monroe.
Don worked as a machine operator for Peerless Gear in Tecumseh for 25 years. He then went to work as a Crane Operator for National Galvanizing in Monroe, from which he retired.
Don attended Union Street Missionary Baptist Church, a life member of VFW Post 1138 auxiliary, and a life member of the Moose Lodge #884. His favorite way to pass the time was to watch all types of sports on television. Most of all Don loved time spent with family and friends.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sylvia, his loving son, Charlie L. Laney of Monroe, two cherished granddaughters: Skylar and Audrina Laney, a treasured great grandson, David Sorrell, and a half-brother, Charles Miller of Tennessee.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his son, Donald Jack "DJ" Laney and two brothers: Larry and Paul Laney.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, Michigan, 48161, where funeral services celebrating Don's life will be held that afternoon at 2:00 pm. Rev. Ron Morgan will officiate.
Private interment will be held at Historic Woodland Cemetery in Monroe.
