Deon B. Wright, 89 years, of Monroe, MI went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 9, 2011.
Born July 26, 1921 in Rochelle, LA, Deon was the daughter of the late Crayman and Louise (Scott) Addison. On July 6, 1951 in St. Louis, MO, Deon married Earl Wright. Sadly, Earl preceded her in death.
Deon moved to Monroe in 1946 from Port Huron, MI to raise her family. An incredible cook and homemaker, Deon also worked outside her home. She worked as a clerk at Federal's Department Store, a nurse's aide at The Lutheran Home, and as a Foster Grandma for 11 years at ISD. Deon also saw need to get a diploma and at the age of 59 she received her GED from Orchard East.
Deon was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church and its Willing Workers. Deon had a passion for cooking and enjoyed crafts, playing Bingo, crossword puzzles, playing cards with her friends and listening to Pastor Joel Osteen. Most of all Deon loved her family and her many friends.
Deon is survived by her loving and caring daughter Deon Earlene Wright of Monroe, 2 cherished grandchildren; Valencia Louise Wright of Monroe and Charlie Davis of St. Louis, MO, 5 treasured great grandchildren and 2 treasured great great grandchildren all of St. Louis, MO, a foster son; Rev. Earl Johnson of St. Louis, MO, her best friend Florabell Epps, of Ypsilanti, foster daughters Valeria Campbell of Monroe, Marie Lecurgo of Toledo, Yvonne Vinson Goree of IL, and Geraldine Jones Buford of Yspilanti, a dear friend Liz Pete of LaSalle, a special person in her heart Helen Vining and Family of Ann Arbor and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to her husband and parents Deon was preceded in death by a son John (Jacki) Burrell II.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., in Monroe from 10:00 AM until funeral services celebrating her life at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Al Overstreet of Al Overstreet Evangelistic Ministry will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monroe.
