Dennis C. "Denny" Hazen, age 71, of Newport, MI. passed away Friday, July 18, 2008 at Mercy Memorial Hospital where he had been since July 6. Denny, as he liked to called, was born August 2, 1936 in Interlaken, NY, the son of the late Henry and Catherine (Rundell) Hazen. Denny was a 1954 Graduate of Milan High School. On August 31, 1970 Denny married the former Carol J. Baker in Monroe. Denny worked as a machine maintenance man at Smallbach – Lubeca formerly known as Johnson Controls in Novi, Michigan for over 35 years, retiring in 2000. Denny attended Bethany Baptist Church. One of his greatest joys was babysitting for his grand and great grandchildren. Denny is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years Carol, his loving children Kelly D. (Tammera) Ruettinger of Monroe, MI, Kevin E. (Vicki) Ruettinger of Tecumseh, MI, and Kerri L. (Bill) Redmon – Merhar of Newport, MI, 8 cherished grandchildren; Nicole, Jacob, Joshua, Jesse, Ashley, Jenny, Marissa, and Jenna, 2 treasured great grandchildren; Owen and Mikyla, a brother Myron Hazen of Tucson, AZ and a sister Nelda Lutz of Byron Center, MI. Visitation will be held on Monday from 1-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Rex Jones Jr. pastor of Bethany Baptist Church will officiate. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
